Good job! – You’ve made the first step to stay safe
The Wellington Region is an awesome place to live, but it’s a little wild.
We often experience earthquakes, storms, flooding and landslides. We’re also at risk from tsunamis.
These emergencies have similar impacts. It would be hard to get around, hard to communicate with loved ones and hard to get access to the essentials.
We’ve outlined the things you can do to prepare your household and community get through the challenging days safely, and as comfortably as possible.
Start with what you can do right now
Download the Red Cross Hazards App and find out where to get information in an emergency.
Then think about what you can do:
How to Drop, Cover and Hold during an earthquake and check if you're in a tsunami zone.
How to create a plan for what your household would do in an emergency and put together a grab bag.
How to make your home safer, store enough water for everyone in your household and what to do if you can't flush your toilet.
Why your neighbours are so important and what supplies you might need at home.
Find your nearest Community Emergency Hub.
