In the event of a major disaster road and rail links out of Wellington City could be rendered impassable for many days, possibly longer. For many people, the only way home will be on foot.
The Long Walk Home is an opportunity to raise awareness of the possibility and to practice the walk. This year two walks will be run:
The Lions Long Walk Home 2018 is being run over two days from November the 10th and 11th with 1 and 2 day options. The route runs from Wellington Railway Station to Marine Gardens in Raumati.
This is the third time the Lion’s Long Walk Home event has been run, and Kapiti Lions invite you and your friends to get involved. This year Lions would also like to put a specific challenge out to government agencies, large and small business and other organisations in the Wellington City area to lead the way in inspiring their employee’s preparedness by supporting a team registration. You are more than welcome to wear corporate colours, funny hats, face paint or anything else to represent your organisation.
The project has the support of Lions Clubs along the route from Wellington to Paraparaumu, the Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO), emergency services and Wellington City, Porirua and Kāpiti Coast District Councils.
The Rotary Clubs of Hutt Valley's Long Walk Home 2018 is being run on Sunday 11 November. The route runs from Wellington Railway Station to Silverstream.
