Being creative in a disaster
Date: Saturday 26 September 2026
Time: 1pm - 3.30pm
Location: Ocean Road Community Centre, 45 Ocean Road, Paraparaumu Beach
Washing machine from a toilet plunger? Refrigerator with a garden pot? Discover practical, low-cost, and creative ways to prepare for emergencies at your local Community Emergency Hub.
This workshop will show you how everyday items can be turned into simple tools to help you, and your neighbours get through a natural disaster. You'll also learn more about community emergency hubs, a place where you and your neighbours can go to help each other in a major emergency.
See demonstrations and take home easy “make-it” guides for:
- DIY washing machines
- Headlamp lanterns
- Sand “battery” heaters
- Clay pot refrigerators for vegetables
- Solar ovens
Register in advance on the Kāpiti Coast District Council webpage and go home from the workshop with a free grab bag worth $25! - https://www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/.../sustainable-spring/
